The Last Mrs. Parrish
Book Review - The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine
I started this book via Audible on my drive from Chicago to St. Louis - THE drive - the one where I was following a moving truck full of my things. I needed a book that promised to suck me in and distract me from the sadness of saying goodbye. This book did EXACTLY that. In fact, I forgot to even look in my rear view mirror and the receding skyline. I was sucked in almost immediately to the twisted tale of The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine.
This book is part Gone Girl and part Behind Closed Doors. It is the story of Amber Patterson - she is fed up with her average midwest life - tired of being a nobody. She heard about Daphne and Jackson Parrish - a couple who seem to have it all. Jackson is a real estate mogul worth millions and Daphne is a socialite and philanthropist who appears to take her privilege for granted. Amber lies about her past to infiltrate the Parrish family, befriending Daphne and quickly becoming her closest confidante. Amber has a plan, but she also has a past she must hide.
Sometimes you just need a book that will suck you in and keep you turning the pages (or, if you're listening to it via Audible like I did you need it to keep your mind from wandering!) I was hooked within the first few minutes - Liv Constantine has a great way of foreshadowing in a way that leaves you guessing until the very end. It had twists and turns even up to the last few minutes of the book!
Many of my book blogging friends have been talking about this great book and it didn't disappoint. I first heard about it from Reese Witherspoon's book club - it was her December pick. You may have seen my link to her Instagram account with a picture of Reese holding this book in my post about 5 Bookstagrammers to Follow. Click on over to read the full article if you missed it!
