And They Called it Camelot
Book Review - And They Called it Camelot by Stephanie Marie Thornton
I absolutely adore books about Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Last year, I read The Editor by Steven Rowley, a fictional account of Jacqueline’s time as a book editor and soon I’ll be reading and reviewing Jackie and Maria by Gill Paul that focuses on Jacqueline’s time married to Aristotle Onassis. In addition to being a fan of books about Jacqueline Kennedy, I’m also a fan of Stephanie Marie Thornton after reading her novel American Princess about Alice Roosevelt. So it comes as no surprise that I would be eager to read and review this book.
And They Called it Camelot by Stephanie Marie Thornton is a chronicle of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’ life from the moment she met John F. Kennedy through Aristotle’s death. Even though most of us are keenly aware of Jacquline’s life, through history lessons or watching the beautiful movie starring Natalie Portman entitled Jackie, knowing the end of the story wasn’t a spoiler. Stephanie Marie Thornton takes us through all the glamour, the pain, and the strength that is Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
I absolutely adored this book in the same way I adored Stephanie Marie Thornton’s previous novel. It is dense with historic information but still reads like the most compelling of novels. Even if you think you know everything there is to know about Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, I think you’d enjoy this book. The kicker for me? Flipping through the Author’s Note and SEEING MY NAME LISTED IN THE THANK-YOUS. I may have shrieked and called my husband into the room to show him. I think this is a first! My name is in a book!
