  • Martha Gellhorn’s Childhood Home | 4366 McPherson Ave, St. Louis, MO 63108

Martha Gellhorn was an author, travel writer, and journalist. She is also known for being Ernest Hemingway’s third wife.

  • Kate Chopin’s Historical House | 4232 McPherson Ave, St. Louis, MO 63108

Kate Chopin is an American novelist of notable works, such as The Awakening. She was born in St. Louis and also died here.

  • Maya Angelou’s Childhood Home | 3130 Hickory St, St. Louis, MO 63104

Maya Angelou was an American poet, singer, memoirist, and civil rights activist. She was born in St. Louis in 1926.

  • T.S. Eliot House | 4446 Westminster Pl, St. Louis, MO 63108

The Federal Revival Townhouse gains its historic significance because it was the home of the poet T.S. Eliot.  The house was built by his father Henry.

  • Writer’s Corner | N Euclid Ave & McPherson Ave, St. Louis, MO 63108

Writer's Corner, located at the intersection of Euclid and McPherson in St. Louis' Central West End, highlights that history with busts of renowned authors and one-time CWE residents Tennessee Williams, T. S. Eliot and Kate Chopin occupying three of the intersection's four corners.

The Eugene Field House is a historic house museum at 634 South Broadway in St. Louis, Missouri. Built in 1845, it was the home of Roswell Field, an attorney for Dred Scott in the landmark Dred Scott v. Sandford court case. Field's son, Eugene Field, was raised there and became a noted writer of children's stories.

This snug, homey coffee shop with local artists' work & live music offers light fare & baked goods. Includes a large bookshelf.

Light-filled, all-day locale serving fresh-baked pastries & New American plates in a casual setting. Housed in an old bookstore and named after a poem by Emily Dickens.

Order the Hemingway off their cocktail menu.

The restaurant features a carefully curated collection of gifts, including books.

Hip shop serving Arthouse coffee, baked goods, breakfast, brunch & lunch eats in basic surrounds. Includes a shelf of books to peruse while you wait.

Housed in a former bookstore, and near the back of this bar there is a collection of spy novels for sale.

BestCellars is an event series in St. Louis that pairs cocktails, food, entertainment, and atmosphere with literary themes.

BookFest St. Louis is a celebration of the literary arts that will bring dozens of local, regional and national authors together for a one-day festival in the Central West End.

St. Louis Writers Guild, a nonprofit literary organization for all writers.

Readings start at 7:30 p.m. on the third Monday of the month.

A charming, independent bookstore housed in a unique community space filled with work from local artists 

The oldest, independently-operated bookstore in St. Louis

Opened in October 2000 focusing on the independent book store best sellers, cult classics, small presses, timeless literature, and anything else that catches their fancy.

Main Street Books was founded in May of 1993 by Mary Fran Rash, during the Great Flood. 

The Book House was founded by Michelle Barron in 1986. Family owned and operated for over 30 years, they were once located in an historic Victorian house built in 1863.  

With hard to find titles shelved within an impressive architectural space, Dunaway Books will oblige the antiquarian and indulge the book lover.

Located on beautiful Cherokee Antique Row and Cherokee-Lemp Historic District in St. Louis MO, Hammonds Books is a family-owned business operating in this same location for over 35 years.

Established in 1991, our store has an ever-changing collection of used, rare & out-of-print books on two floors. 

We have been serving the community for over 35 years and have become St Louis’ gold standard when it comes to secondhand and pre-loved books.
