Author I draw inspiration from:
There are so many incredibly talented authors out there that it’s so hard to choose just one! If I had to, I would probably have to choose Rhonda Byrne and her book “The Secret”. This book completely changed my life for the better and was the catalyst that encouraged me to pursue all of my wildest dreams of being an author. Its message continues to inspire me every single day and really taught me the power of a positive mindset and gratitude.
Favorite place to read a book:
My ideal reading spot would have to be poolside, in a deckchair with a margarita cocktail in hand. Nothing sounds more perfect to me than spending a summer's day alternating between reading and jumping in the pool to cool off. In the colder months you’ll find me curled up in front of a fireplace with a cup of tea.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:
Ooh such a hard question! I’d have to say I would happily be stuck with any of my own characters, but especially Jameson Miles from The Stopover, or Joshua Stanton from my debut book Stanton Adore. If you’ve read either book, I’m sure you can guess why. I’m one of those people who find stressful situations funny, so I’m sure they would both be freaking out and I would be laughing away at their ridiculousness.
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:
My journey to becoming an author wasn’t a straightforward one. I had always loved books, as a teenager I would constantly sneak away to read when I was supposed to be doing schoolwork. My own imagination was one of my favorite places to visit, and I would dream up stories, characters and plot twists all of the time. However, as I got older I somehow forgot about all of my ambitions of becoming an author and instead went on to work as a hairdresser, a sales rep and a million other random jobs. It wasn’t until ten years ago when I found an old diary filled with a story I had plotted when I was seventeen years old, that I suddenly remembered all of my dreams of becoming an author. Finding this diary was a huge light bulb moment for me and from then on I threw everything I had into making this dream a reality. Fast forward to now, I have written twenty four books and continue to write every single day. Becoming an author was always something I knew I wanted in life and I am so incredibly grateful to be living my dream.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:
I am such a sucker for a beautiful hardcover or paperback! To me, there is such a magical feeling when you’re holding a book and the world the author has created is a tangible thing within your hands. The beautiful printing effects like embossing and foiling are also another reason why physical books are my all-time favorite. I’ve now started a collection of Pride & Prejudice book editions because I fall in love with every new cover I see.
The last book I read:
The last book I read was The Diary of a CEO by Steven Bartlett. Non-fiction and self-help books are my favorite things to read. I love learning new ways of thinking and finding new ways to challenge myself. This book was such an inspirational and empowering read and left me feeling like I could do anything.
Pen & paper or computer:
I use a combination of both pen and paper and a laptop when it comes to my writing process. I love to start a book in my writing journal and list the plot points, scenes and all of the character details floating around in my mind. From there I switch to my laptop and really start writing. Sometimes the story will surprise me and go in a whole new different direction when I’m in the midst of a scene, so referring back to my initial notes always helps me know if this new direction feels right for the story. I’m big on the “feeling” of a book, so when something doesn’t feel right to me in a chapter I usually can’t keep writing until I figure out a way to fix it, it’s like a really strong gut feeling and so far I think it’s really helped my writing for the better.
Book character I think I’d be best friends with:
I’d definitely be best friends with all of the female characters in my books! In particular, I think I would be the closest with Abbie, Bridget, and Adrian from my Stanton series. Not only are they all so loyal and caring but they are also so much fun and get into such funny and ridiculous scenarios that I think I would be forever entertained. They would be the type of friends that would be like family and would stick by you and support you through anything.
If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:
If I weren’t an author, I think I would have continued to pursue my interests in psychology. I find human behaviour fascinating to try to understand and I think would get a lot of fulfilment from helping people who are struggling with their mental health.
Favorite decade in fashion history:
I absolutely adore historical romance books, so I would have to say the Rococo era. Lavish ball gowns in rich colors and beautiful detailing. To spend a day wandering around a castle in a dress fit for a princess sounds like a dream come true to me.
Place I’d most like to travel:
One of the places highest on my travel bucket list is Ashford castle in Ireland. I first came across this castle when I was researching information for one of my books and I was so inspired that it became a part of the story itself. I would love to spend a week or two exploring the Irish countryside and curling up next to fireplaces to write.
My signature drink:
As my readers have caught on to, there is nothing that I love more than a good salted Margarita cocktail. I especially love a frozen margarita, nothing is more refreshing on a hot summer’s day in Australia. My character’s and their best friends will often visit bars and drink margaritas together, whilst updating each other on their latest funny stories and love life drama.
Favorite artist:
I don’t have one favorite artist, but I absolutely love art and the way it inspires you and makes you feel. I also love music for that reason, and am often inspired by different songs when I’m writing. My favorite type of art is abstract paintings and work by local Australian artists. For music I love a super wide variety of music, anything from heartbreaking slow love songs to fast paced music you can dance to.
Number one on my bucket list:
I’m such a big dreamer and love to challenge myself, so the next big thing on my bucket list would be to direct a film. When I’m writing my books the scenes all play out in my imagination as if they were a movie, so I feel like this could be a really fun, exciting experience.
