Hi.

Welcome to Hasty Book List, where I document and review the books I read. Hope you have a nice stay!

Author I draw inspiration from: Nick Hornby. He’s so dryly funny and I credit him with helping me to fall in love with reading again (after school textbooks burned me out).

Favorite place to read a book: On my big green couch.

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Lettie Hempstock from Neil Gaiman’s The Ocean at the End of the Lane. Maybe all the other Hempstocks too. I love the Hempstocks.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: I've always wanted to become an author; I don’t remember when it started. As a kid, I wrote stories about sad girls, always sad girls. As an adult, I write stories about sad women. What does it mean? Who can say?

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: I like a small, buttery paperback with thin pages and un-deckled edges. (But a hardcover is more fun to get in the mail.)

The last book I readThe Pink Hotel by Anna Stothard.

Pen & paper or computer: Computer, but I keep a pen and notepad on the side—if I get stuck on a scene, I stop and work it out on paper.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Morley, from Stuart McLean's Vinyl Cafe books and radio show.

If I wasn’t an author, I’d be a: piano teacher. I did that for a while already and I’d do it again. Kids are great and music is great and I have only fond memories of my own piano teachers.

Favorite decade in fashion history: Late 70s. When I was a teenager, my grandma let me have a bunch of my aunt’s old clothes from when she was in high school, so I now have this weird nostalgia for an era I never lived through.

Place I’d most like to travel: Norway!

My signature drink: Just a good old latte.

Favorite artist: I’m going to go with a musical artist and say Conor Oberst, specifically in his Bright Eyes days.

Number one on my bucket list: I would love to have one of my books made into a movie. Maybe it’s not a good thing to have on a bucket list because it’s not something that’s in my power to bring to fruition but…I’m sorry. It's the only daydream I even have right now.
