Author Interview - Kristy Woodson Harvey
Author of Under the Southern Sky
UNDER THE SOUTHERN SKY is the story of Amelia, an investigative journalist, who inadvertently discovers that a cluster of embryos belonging to her childhood friend Parker and his late wife Greer have been deemed “abandoned.” Parker is then put in the position to have to decide what to do with the last remaining piece of the woman he loved so much. The story is told from the perspectives of Parker, the father, Greer his late wife’s journal entries, Amelia, and Amelia’s good Southern meddling mama, Elizabeth. Each character has a secret and, as those secrets are revealed, they determine what will ultimately happen to the embryos.
Favorite place to read a book: The Beach. I live in a coastal town in NC, and the summers are my favorite!
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Francie Nolan from A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. I read this book for the first time when I was in 5th grade and have read it almost every year since. I always find something new to love!
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: It wasn't a "moment" necessarily. When I finished my first manuscript and realized this was something I could actually do I became really committed to the idea of at least trying to see this thing through.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: Paperback
The last book I read: An ARC of The Newcomer by Mary Kay Andrews. It's my favorite MKA yet!
Pen & paper or computer: Computer
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: I'm sure it's awful to say one of my own, but... I really think Amelia and I from Under the Southern Sky would be great friends!
If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: A songwriter. I don't know if I can actually write songs... But I'd like to try!
Favorite decade in fashion history: This is a tough one, but I think the 60s. I love short skirts and A-line dresses and fun, vibrant color palettes and patterns.
Place I’d most like to travel: Egypt
My signature drink: Champagne!
Favorite artist: Maren Devine
Number one on my bucket list: Spending a long, less hectic summer with my toes in the sand! I'll be on book tour for a couple weeks and then summer will almost be here!
Anything else you'd like to add: UNDER THE SOUTHERN SKY is my favorite book I've ever written, a story that has been on my mind for more than five years. I am so excited to share it with readers and so grateful for all who are helping to spread the word!
