Book Review - Party Girls Die in Pearls by Plum Sykes

I've been reading Plum Sykes' books since 2004 with the publication of her debut novel, Bergdorf Blondes. I had just graduated high school and I was about to start studying Fashion Marketing and Management at Stephens College. A few years later she came out with Debutante Divorcee about a group of divorced socialites (plus one token newly wed) living in New York City. Her books are fun, cheeky reads with a lot of great British humor.

So when a friend of mine texted me about a book signing with Plum Sykes at Burberry earlier this year, I was excited to meet her and grab a copy of her latest book. If you've ever read any of her books, Plum is exactly how you'd expect her to be: outgoing, bubbly, and funny! I arrived at the event early and not many people had arrived. Plum was already working the room, phone in hand, recording videos for her Instagram stories. She came right up to me and thanked me for coming and announced that she would be back in a second to sign my book. She was great fun to be around and super chatty.

I'm partnering with Amy of The Trendy Reader for my next virtual book club discussion of this book. We are meeting on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 7pm Chicago time to discuss Party Girls Die in Pearls by Plum Sykes. Click here for more information about how to join the virtual book club. If you don't mind spoilers, feel free to join even if you haven't read or finished the book! We hope to see you all there!

So back to the book review. Party Girls Die in Pearls has that same cheeky charm of her previous books. It is perfect for a quick sit-down with a light, fun, entertaining read. It is about the investigation of a murder during the first week of classes at Oxford. I learned a little bit about 1980s culture in England including Bendicks Bittermints, "Pre-Diptyque candles, they were the only acceptable prezzie at grand English house parties." So if you throw your own book club discussing this book, I think these mints are a must (that and pink champagne!)
