Author Interview - Sara Desai
Author I draw inspiration from: Margaret Atwood is brilliant at weaving engaging stories that touch on religion, women’s rights, societal issues and moral and ethical dilemmas. Her characters are so real and vibrant you feel like you know them. She is also a Canadian!!
Favorite place to read a book: We have a window seat upstairs that overlooks the garden and catches the afternoon sun. If I can ever snatch a few moments, I’ll grab my Kindle, a cup of coffee, some chocolaty treats, and a soft blanket and lose myself in a a good book.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Any grouchy alpha-male hero who could 1) save us by opening the hatch and climbing out of the elevator with me on his back action-hero style; 2) instantly be charmed by my sunny personality despite himself; 3) feel compelled to protect me from a dangerous ex/stalker/evil wizard/creature from the underworld (choose one); and 4) fall in love with me and sweep me off my feet.
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: I knew I wanted to become an author when I won a library writing competition in third grade with a ten-page story about a witch who found a magical treasure in a haunted house. I received a box of chocolates as a prize. Stories=chocolate. My life was set.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: I love the feel of paperback books, but space limitations and ease of access mean ebooks are my go-to right now. Also, with over 300 books on my Kindle, I can take all my books wherever I go!
The last book I read: Archangel’s Legion by Nalini Singh
Pen & paper or computer: For plotting, notes, shopping lists, to-do lists, and brain storming, I use pen and paper. I use the computer for everything else.
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Any kickass urban fantasy or PNR heroine with a sword or magical powers.
If I wasn’t an author, I’d be a: I was a lawyer before I became an author and still miss the thrill of being in court.
Favorite decade in fashion history: The eighties. I still have some of my high school clothes.
Place I’d most like to travel: Maldives
My signature drink: Pink Lemonade Martini
Favorite artist: Alphonse Mucha
Number one on my bucket list: Snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef
Anything else you'd like to add: Berkley Romance has some fabulous books by diverse authors. Check out Uzma Jalaluddin, Alexa Martin, Nalini Singh, Helen Hoang, Jasmine Guillory, and Sonya Lalli, to name just a few!!
