The Marriage Game
Book Review - The Marriage Game by Sara Desai
With the world suffering under the weight of this pandemic, I find myself craving lighthearted reads about characters with comparatively minor problems and the promise of a happy ending. Often, that means Women’s Fiction, Romance, and even better if they include a little bit of comedy. If you’re like me and need a break from the relentless bad news on the news, then pick up your copy of The Marriage Game by Sara Desai (named one of Oprah Magazine's Most Anticipated Romances of 2020!)
The Marriage Game is about Layla Patel, a young Indian-American woman returning home to San Francisco after a scandal to start fresh with a new business venture, and Sam Mehta, a handsome CEO who just moved into a new office above Layla’s family restaurant. There was some confusion and Layla and Sam end up sharing the office, which soon becomes inundated with marriage prospects when Layla’s dad creates a profile for her on an online dating website. In an effort to win the office space for themselves, Layla and Sam create The Marriage Game. If Layla finds a suitable match, she’ll leave the office to Sam. If she doesn’t, Sam will find a new place to work.
This was a cute book filled with delicious descriptions of Indian food that left me wanting to order Indian takeout every night I read this book. I forgot to mention that Layla’s family restaurant is a Michelin starred restaurant, so the food is just * chef’s kiss. * The dating prospects were humorous, the attraction between Layla and Sam thick, and (most importantly) it got my mind off of reality. :) Enjoy.
