Author Interview - Kerry Anne King
Author of Other People's Things
Jailbird. Klepto. Spectacular failure to launch. Nicole Wood’s sticky fingers have earned her many names, but it’s not that she’s stealing—some objects just need to be moved elsewhere, and the universe has chosen her to do it. Still, being a relocator of objects isn’t easy. With her marriage on the rocks, no real-world skills, and the threat of prison hanging over her head, Nicole is determined to change her ways. Only she can't resist moving a seemingly harmless old paperback which sets in motion a chain of events that uncovers long buried secrets and makes her confront the possibility that maybe – just maybe – what she’s always thought of as a curse might actually be a gift.
Author I draw inspiration from: Alice Hoffman. I love the way she weaves magic into whatever world she is writing.
Favorite place to read a book: The outdoor hot tub. Preferably with either a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, depending on the time of day.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: So hard to choose, but I'm going with Diana Bishop from the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness, because I'm pretty sure she could weave a spell to get the elevator unstuck and I could ask her a bunch of questions about Elizabethan England and France while she does it.
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: I can't think of any one moment, but I'm pretty sure reading Little Women when I was twelve had something to do with it. I really connected to Jo and was inspired by her passion to be a writer.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: Paperback.
The last book I read: The Magic of Found Objects by Maddie Dawson
Pen & paper or computer: Depends, but usually computer.
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Phronsie Linnel from Maddie Dawson's The Magic of Found Objects
If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: Very unhappy person who was not fit to be around.
Favorite decade in fashion history: The 80's--stretch jeans and leggings for the win
Place I’d most like to travel: Africa
My signature drink: Americano, hot, with steamed cream. No sugar, no flavor, just good coffee.
Favorite artist: Monet
Number one on my bucket list: #1 on the New York Times Bestseller list.
