Author Interview - C.T. Rwizi
Author I draw inspiration from: Alastair Reynolds, Frank Herbert
Favorite place to read a book: Beneath the tree in my backyard, but I’ve been known to get lost in a book pretty much anywhere I can sit.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: A wizard, obviously. Like Dumbledore or Gandalf the White. That way I can bother them until they agreed to teach me some magic.
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: I guess it was always a subconscious desire. Even throughout high school and college, I’d find myself jotting down ideas, plots, and dumping them onto a folder on my computer. But it wasn’t until after college that I made the conscious decision to attempt giving some flesh to one of my ideas, and the powerful feeling of rightness that took over me as I worked on the project told me I was doing what I was meant to do. I haven’t stopped writing since.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: Hardback, because I like the feeling of a book in my hands, plus they look good on a shelf. But ebook is a very close second.
The last book I read: Persepolis Rising by James S.A. Corey
Pen & paper or computer: Pen and paper for initial planning and brainstorming. That way I can draw, doodle and underscore, all of which I find helpful when I’m thinking. Computer for everything else. Typing is way faster than writing with a pen, and it’s easier on the fingers.
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Andrew Dahl from Red Shirts. I don’t think I’ve read anything else that made me laugh so much.
If I wasn’t an author, I’d be a: I’d still need an outlet for my overactive imagination so maybe I’d be an amateur DJ.
Favorite decade in fashion history: I get super nostalgic when I see the baggy jeans and shirts of the nineties. That decade also had some pretty good music. Then again, I was born in the nineties so I’m definitely biased.
Place I’d most like to travel: Italy, Egypt and Greece. Blame Assassin’s Creed for all three.
My signature drink: Any red wine, though admittedly I’m not much of a drinker. Does water count? I do love me a glass of cold water.
Favorite artist: This changes almost weekly, but I’ve liked pretty much everything ever released by Odesza
Number one on my bucket list: Go scuba diving. I’m super terrified of deep water but I feel drawn to it at the same time. Hopefully I’ll get around to doing it in the not-too-distant future.
Anything else you'd like to add: Scarlet Odyssey comes on July 1. Go out and get it!
