Author Interview - Christopher Parker

Author of The Lighthouse

The story follows Amy, a young woman grieving the loss of her mother, and Ryan, a young ranch hand whose ardent love for his father drives him to continue running his family’s failing business. When Amy first visits Seabrook, Oregon, she’s immediately fascinated by the beautiful coast and its ghostly past. And while her first impressions of Ryan aren’t the most flattering, their friendship forms deeper bonds as the truth behind the town lighthouse and its supernatural aura emerge.

Author I draw inspiration from: Stephen King, Nicholas Sparks, John Grisham - any of those uber popular writers that have achieved success but continue to push out work each and every year. Their output is remarkable and truly aspirational.

Favorite place to read a book: In bed by the soft glow of a bedside lamp :)

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Someone like Jack Reacher - I imagine he'd be able to get us out of there in no time at all.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: When I showed a friend a very early draft of a chapter from my book, and they responded that they got swept up in the story and wanted to get back into reading again. It was the shot of confidence I needed and made me want to see the journey through and fulfil my dream of becoming an author.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: Paperback - I love the tactile nature of a book in my hands and they're easier to maneuver and carry around (as opposed to be hardbacks that at times can be a little heavy and unwiedly)

The last book I read: Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens - exquisitely written and such well-drawn characters.

Pen & paper or computer: Computer. I make far too many edits and revisions. If I tried to use pen & paper the result would likely look like a Jackson Pollock painting.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Ove from A Man Called Ove (Fredric Bachman) - if only because I imagine that's how I'll be later in life and people like that still need friends!

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: In high school I always wanted to be a journalist, so perhaps that. Not the kind that covers war-torn regions of the world - more the cushy travel journalist kind.

Favorite decade in fashion history: Being the fashion connoisseur that I am (he says sarcastically), I'd have to say the 1920s - can't beat the glitz and glamour of that roaring decade (before it all went pear-shaped of course).

Place I’d most like to travel: Faroe Islands. Hard to get to, not much there, but they look like the most fantastical place!

My signature drink: Coffee - not sure I could've ever finished my book without it.

Number one on my bucket list: Well, now that space tourism is a thing, is going into a space a valid answer? If not, I'd settle for a luxurious Caribbean cruise on one of those giant floating cities.

Anything else you'd like to add: Thanks for stopping by to learn about me and my book. If you're after a heartfelt story with unexpected twists and turns, please do grab a copy of The Lighthouse.

Author Bio: Christopher was born in Takapuna, a seaside suburb in Auckland, New Zealand, where he currently lives with his daughter. Having loved writing stories growing up, it was a walk along Takapuna beach and a chance glimpse at a distant lighthouse that made him want to revisit his childhood passion and try his hand at producing a novel. Nearly ten years on from that fateful stroll, he is proud to finally share his story.
The Lighthouse is Christopher’s first novel.
