Author Interview - Beatriz Williams
Author I draw inspiration from: There are so many! But when it comes to the fusing of a singular literary voice with textured, effortless historical storytelling, I turn again and again to Patrick O’Brian.
Favorite place to read a book: On the sofa with my feet up. (In summer, that sofa might be outdoors…)
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: The Scarlet Pimpernel
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: When I was five years old, reading Little House in the Big Woods for the first time.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: Usually hardback, although paperback when traveling
The last book I read: BEL CANTO, by Ann Patchett. I was literally raised on opera, and I can’t believe it took me so long to read this marvelous book.
Pen & paper or computer: Pen and paper to outline, computer to write
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Anne Elliot, from PERSUASION
If I wasn’t an author, I’d be a: Opera singer. (Well, assuming I had the talent.)
Favorite decade in fashion history: I’m going to go with the Thirties, although the late Fifties/early Sixties is a close second
Place I’d most like to travel: South Pacific
My signature drink: Rosé Champagne
Favorite artist: John Singer Sargent, because I’m so drawn to portraiture
Number one on my bucket list: Fly in a vintage airplane
