I selected Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty as one of my November books from Book of the Month. I love Liane Moriarty (um, hello Big Little Lies and Truly Madly Guilty!) It sat on my shelf for awhile until I saw it listed on Goodread’s list of best fiction books in 2018. I wasn’t sure I’d have time to get to my hard copy so I purchased it on Audible and listened to it over the holiday season (lots of driving to visit family!) Stay tuned tomorrow to hear about how Caroline Lee prepared to narrate this book!

I enjoyed this book, but I’m not sure it is one of my favorites by Liane Moriarty. I heard rave reviews from friends and, like I mentioned earlier, it was shortlisted as Goodread’s best fiction of 2018. The “twists” weren’t too surprising to me and I often wondered why the guests went along with some of the treatment plans…even before things got really weird. There were some scenarios I found unbelievable - when the guests overreacted or under-reacted to a situation. It was a good story and I wanted to know how it ended - I like the premise of a health retreat location - but I wasn’t as captivated by Liane’s writing as I have been in the past.

I took pictures for this book in the Historic West Bottoms area of Kansas City. For Christmas, my husband and I “gave” each other a weekend getaway to KC. One of the things we stumbled upon during our visit was the West Bottoms area, which is filled with huge antique stores…and lots of them! We spent a couple hours just walking through various stores. There was some kind of festival happening while we were there and they were playing music and you could visit Santa. It was a totally unplanned stop and we just happened to visit at the right time. We want to go back and really take time to peruse all the stores.
