Mr. Malcolm's List
Book Review - Mr. Malcolm's List by Suzanne Allain
The line that got me to read Mr. Malcolm’s List by Suzanne Allain? “Soon to be a major motion picture, using a culturally diverse cast to reclaim historical narratives that are traditionally played by white actors.” I did NOT want to miss out on that opportunity…and everyone knows that you have to read the book first, right? So I jumped at the chance to read this book, even though the plot wasn’t normally something I’d be inclined to read (as much as I love historical fiction, I don’t read a lot of historical romance.)
Mr. Malcolm's List by Suzanne Allain is about Mr. Jeremy Malcolm who is searching for a wife that lives up to the criteria he’s outlined in a list. Julia Thistlewaite did not live up to Mr. Malcolm’s expectations, so she’s created an elaborate revenge plot to put him in his place. Selina Dalton arrives to town to visit her old friend Julia, and finds herself a reluctant pawn in Julia’s plan. Does Mr. Malcolm deserve to be put in his place for measuring women against his impossible standards or is he not as bad as what Julia thinks?
I devoured this book! It was cute and humorous and sweet. I found myself adoring the characters and wanting to know how their story ended. Perhaps I do love the historical romance genre? This book certainly makes me want to give others a go!
