I chose to read this book primarily because I'd read In Farleigh Field by the same author and absolutely loved it. In fact, back when I was rating books on this blog I gave it five out of five stars. So when I got the opportunity to review another book by Rhys, I jumped at the opportunity without really reading much about the book. I'm a Royal Spyness newbie. I haven't read any of the other books in this series, which I think put me at somewhat of a disadvantage when reading this book. When I first posted a picture of this book on Instagram Stories I had several friends reach out to me about loving the Royal Spyness series which is the first I had heard of it (despite the book cover clearly saying it is part of the Royal Spyness series and despite that the cover of In Farleigh Field says it is by the author of the Royal Spyness series....I obviously don't read book jackets very closely.)

All that to say, it took me some time to get into this book. To start off, Rhys' writing style in this book vastly differs from her writing style in In Farleigh Field. The characters in this book are a bit silly and the situations they get themselves in are a bit far-fetched. But what is one to expect from a series called The Royal Spyness, right? So this book is definitely a frilly summer read: fun, light, and quick. There is a time and place for books like that: an afternoon at the pool, a summer vacation at the beach, or just sitting at home after a long day at work. Sometimes it is nice to have a book that is just entertaining and doesn't make you think too hard.

This book is about Lady Georgiana Rannoch, she is about to marry Darcy O'Mara when she inherits a large, stately home from her former step-father who is off traveling the world. He allows her to move in right away so that she can establish herself as Mistress of Eynsleigh. But her step-father warns her that things seem to be amiss at the home and he asks that she also spend that time checking up on things to make sure everything is running smoothly at Eynsleigh. When she arrives, the finds the staff have been slacking on their duties (or worse!) with the Master of the household away for long periods of time. She certainly has her work cut out for her if the home it to be ready by the time she gets married.

There were nearly four funerals in the taking of these photos. It took both of my parents to keep me from floating away while Eric took the photos. I think we all wanted to kill one another afterwards....then about 5 minutes after leaving the lake we all had a good laugh about what a disaster the photo session was. Luckily, none of that came through in the photos! Shockingly, it looks like I'm relaxed and having a good time rather than clenching my ab muscles as hard as I can in order to keep upright or cursing my family for laughing at me. Hahaha!
