I first encountered this book when Book of The Month debuted it back in December - one of the perks of being a member of BOTM is that you get early access to some books. But it was when a publicist I work with closely told me that it was being optioned for a TV series, I knew I had to read this book right away. And then it set on my shelf for a few weeks. So I caved and decided to listen to this via Audible - I just had to know what all the hype was about! And lucky for me, the two audiobook narrators were VERY good. You’ll hear from both of this later this week.

An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen is about Jess, a struggling makeup artist in New York City who lies to enter a morality study that pays well. She needs the money, but it is not lost on her that she was immoral in order to get into the morality study. Won’t the ends justify the means? Except, the study isn’t exactly what it seems and the psychiatrist conducting it is asking Jess to do things she isn’t comfortable with…including flirting with and trying to sleep with married men.

This book was twisty and got my heart racing! At one point I was driving and listening to this book and I thought by the time I made it to my workout my heart rate would already be in the Orange Zone! I thought the authors did a great job of making each small decision that Jess made seem likely - sometimes when I read murder mysteries I think to myself “I would never do that” or “this character is an idiot.” But with Jess, I kinda got where she was coming from and could see me (or my friends) making the same decisions at her age.
