Don't miss bestselling author, Deborah Crombie, (in conversation with me!) at the Spencer Road Branch of the St. Charles County Library on October 9, 2019 at 7pm. We’ll be discussing her latest in the Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James detective series, A Bitter Feast. Books will be available for purchase from The Novel Neighbor at the event and tea and treats will be served! A Bitter Feast is about Viv Holland, a chef who leaves her position at a high-profile, Michelin-starred restaurant for a pub in a little village in the Cotswolds. She and her daughter have been living there peacefully for years until Viv agrees to cater a charity luncheon attended by food bloggers, restaurant critics, and the local elite. Then people around her start dying and people from her past turn up out of nowhere. Her carefully constructed world comes crashing down.

I love a good murder mystery, but this one had the added benefit of being a murder mystery full of delicious cuisine that catered to the foodie in me. My husband and I love to try new restaurants and occasionally treat ourselves to a Michelin-starred restaurant. We’ve been lucky enough to eat at Alinea in Chicago and Akelarre in San Sebastian, Spain - both 3 Michelin Star restaurants and both vastly different experiences. But what I love about Viv is that she makes an everyday, local pub and serves amazingly delicious food. These are the real gems of the restaurant industry and the dining experience I enjoy most of all. I can’t wait to talk to Deborah about some of her favorite restaurants and why she chose to feature a chef in this book.
