HBL Note: I find it fascinating when two or more authors write and publish books about the same historical figure that’s been ignored by the publishing industry for years. In this case, that. historical woman is Nellie Bly who I first featured with The Mad Girls of New York by Maya Rodale. I love reading multiple books, especially fiction, about historical women to get a variety of perspectives or glimpse of different parts of the woman’s life. So when I heard that Louisa Treger’s (also the author of The Lodger and The Dragon Lady) latest novel would also be about Nellie Bly, who is best known for faking her way into an asylum to further her journalistic career and expose the dangerous inner-workings of places treating our mentally ill, I was quick to add it to my list.
