Author Interview - Tara Laskowski
Author of The Mother Next Door
The Mother Next Door is an atmospheric suspense novel about a tightknit group of suburban mothers who invite a new neighborhood mom into their fold, and the fallout the night of their annual Halloween block party, when secrets from the past come back to haunt them.
Author I draw inspiration from: Carol Goodman, Shirley Jackson, Megan Abbott—spooky, atmospheric suspense!
Favorite place to read a book: On my screened-in back porch. With a drink and a fuzzy blanket.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: I prefer a nice trade paperback. It’s not too big or too small, and I still like the feel of a physical book in my hands.
Pen & paper or computer: Oh, definitely computer. My brain works too fast for my hands, and I would get frustrated fast! But I do keep a notebook on my nightstand to scribble down ideas I might get in the middle of the night.
If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: I have no idea! I’ve always had writing or editing in my job title, so maybe I’m hopeless?
Favorite decade in fashion history: The 1970s! Love those bell-bottoms and crazy prints.
Place I’d most like to travel: I want to go to Australia. I think it would be a delightful place to visit. It would be cool to see a kangaroo up close in real life, and the coral reefs! But I’m so intimidated by the length of the plane ride.
My signature drink: I love a good old fashioned. My husband makes the best ones.
Anything else you'd like to add: Thank you!
