Shauna Robinson
Author Interview - Shauna Robinson
Author of MUST LOVE BOOKS
Nora Hughes has been an editorial assistant at Parsons Press for five years. In that time, she's received zero promotions, attended too many good-bye parties and, most recently, received one pay cut. In order to make ends meet, she secretly takes a second job with a rival publisher. But when a bestselling author no one can afford to lose is thrown into the mix, Nora must decide--for the sake of herself, her future, and her worsening mental health--where her loyalties lie.
Author I draw inspiration from: I love the humor that permeates Kurt Vonnegut's writing, even in moments of seriousness. I think serious situations are when humor is needed the most. (Not everyone agrees with this philosophy.)
Favorite place to read a book: On the couch, under a blanket, with a cup of tea next to me, while it's raining or snowing outside. It makes for maximum coziness.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Korede from My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite. I just want to ask her some questions.
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: I think the idea had always been ruminating in my mind because I read so many books growing up--but it was certainly helped along by seeing depictions of authors in movies. All they do is loaf around in a robe and stare at a blank page every now and then? I'm great at all of those things!
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: Paperback! They're lighter and more portable. It's not as easy to stuff a hardcover book in my purse, but I've done it.
The last book I read: Jane and Prudence by Barbara Pym. I love quaint, charming books with wry humor. I came across this one in a used bookstore and it was a fun read.
Pen & paper or computer: Computer. I'm a fast typer and it's easier to get words out that way.
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Queenie from Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams. She's funny and utterly confused in life, and I think we could be funny and confused together.
If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: I would make an excellent recluse who lives in a cabin deep in the woods. I just need someone to offer me that job. Until they do, I will keep campaigning for it.
Favorite decade in fashion history: I'm going to say the 2020s. Sweatpants have never been more acceptable.
Place I’d most like to travel: Somewhere in Italy. I would eat so many things!
My signature drink: Boring as it sounds, I love a good fizzy water.
Favorite artist: I know so little about art that I don't think I'm legally allowed to answer this question.
Number one on my bucket list: My husband has been saying he'll take me to Colonial Williamsburg for forever and he hasn't, so I'll say go to Colonial Williamsburg. Your move, Matt.
