Author Interview - Seressia Glass
Author of The Love Con
Kenya is a plus-sized Blerd competing in cosplay reality show competition and she's competing in the final round. There’s just one catch: the challenge for the final round is all about iconic pairs, and the judges want the contestants’ significant others to participate. Unfortunately, Kenya is as single as can be at the moment. Luckily her best friend, Cameron Lassiter, agrees to be her fake boyfriend for the show.. Roleplaying a couple in love will force them to explore what they’re hiding under the mask of friendship. Can Kenya and Cam fake it until she makes it, or will she be real about her feelings, knowing it could cost her the best friend she’s ever had?
Favorite place to read a book: My favorite place to read is on my back patio while watching the birds and butterflies in my garden.
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: It had always percolated in me during childhood as I read everything I could get my hands on. I even wrote a Halloween play that was performed during the PTA meeting, but at 17, when I wrote an essay for the inaugural MLK Jr holiday and won first place and got to meet Coretta Scott King, I knew I could touch people with my words. I was determined to write after that. It took me another 13 years to learn my craft, meet other writers, and choose the genre I wanted to write in, but I sold my first book just after I turned 30 and haven't looked back since!
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: I donated three decades of books to goodwill, and while it hurt it was very necessary since I knew I wouldn't go back and read them. Now, the only physical copies of books are my research and craft books. Everything else is ebook format..
The last book I read: The Dating Playbook by Farrah Rochon. Really enjoyed the characters in that one.
Pen & paper or computer: I like to do both. I'm a bi-polar Gemini after all, LOL. Writing longhand helps me think through scenes and remove blocks, without having to fear that blank screen where everything needs to be perfect. I start the next day's writing session by typing in my longhand stuff, which helps me clean up and expand the scene.
If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: Well, I still have a day job that I love in Instructional Design, developing web-based training for a major corporation. It blends technical and creative writing as I convey information to the learners in an engaging way.
Favorite decade in fashion history: I have to say the '80s because it was so much fun. I'm not sure I could have survived the Renaissance with all those layers and infrequent bathing.
Place I’d most like to travel: My husband and I have thought about buying an RV or motorcoach and driving across country to visit the 48 contiguous states. Other than that, I've love to visit Ireland, Tuscany, Seoul, Korea.
My signature drink: I love myself some pomegranate and acai green tea.
Favorite artist: I almost should do this by decade, but I love just about everything that Lizzo puts out. For old school, I love The Gap Band and Def Leppard
Number one on my bucket list: Can I say hitting the bestsellers' list? Seriously though, because of my lifelong fascination with Egyptian mythology, I would love to visit the major archaeological site in Egypt.
