Author of THE BEAUTIFUL RISK

After nine months of sorrow and grief, Junie Lagarde -- a brilliant forensic accountant and passionate guitarist -- is gradually accepting life without her beloved husband Olivier, a French safety consultant and climate change expert, whom she lost in a tragic plane accident over Mont Blanc. If only she could have found her loyal hearing-dog Leo, who ran off in the terrifying aftermath of the crash, before she had to return home to the US. But then Junie receives an unexpected call from France...

Capitaine Philippe Brevard, the man in charge of investigating Olivier's death, has seen recent CCTV footage which shows Leo being held by a man who closely resembles Olivier . . . right down to his distinctive jacket.

It's not Olivier. It can't be . . . can it? But who is the man -- and what else is Capitaine Brevard hiding from her? Junie knows she must go to Chamonix, rescue her dog, and uncover the truth . . . but there are those who mean her harm, and soon Junie's learning dangerous secrets. Secrets that will shake her faith in her closest friends and put more than just her own life in the gravest of danger.

Author I draw inspiration from:

I love BINSTEAD'S SAFARI by Rachel Ingalls, and THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR by R.A. Dick. Both fabulous, subversive, novels that I read over and over again.

Favorite place to read a book:

Out to dinner, with a good meal and a glass of red wine.

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:

Adam Dalgliesh, the hero detective in the series by P.D. James. He is so intelligent and compassionate. I have always had a bit of a crush...

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:

I read fast and run out of books ALL THE TIME, so in the fifth grade I decided to write my own novels and have been doing so ever since. I was . . . nine. It was the same year I opened my own detective agency.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:

I love the feel, size, and heft of a Hardback and it is my favorite way to read. A Paperback fits neatly into my purse and it was all I could afford when I was growing up. An Ebook arrives RIGHT NOW, and an Audiobook is lovely to listen to in the car. However you like your storytelling, I am cheering you on.

The last book I read:

THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR, yet again, yet again, yet again, after an intense six weeks launching THE BEAUTIFUL RISK, and finishing the most terrifying book I have ever written in my Noah Archer series.

Pen & paper or computer:

First drafts written by hand, a beautiful cycle of art in the body, everything in sync. Key into computer and edit as I go. I live on Greenwich Lynn Time and am often curled up writing at four AM, with a cup of coffee and my German Shepherd, Leah, snoozing softly beside me. She loves the early morning writing sessions as much as I do. There may be one or two more sessions later in the day depending on my deadlines -- I work an average of three hours per session.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with:

SOPHIE in THE GRAND SOPHIE by Georgette Heyer. Sophie is outrageous and she would be more fun than anyone else on earth.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:

A very dangerous Animal Rights Activist.

Favorite decade in fashion history:

The 1930's.

Place I’d most like to travel:

Annecy, France. I set THE BEAUTIFUL RISK there, and there will be more Annecy books to come. This is a town that owns my heart.

My signature drink:

Red wine. French or Italian.

Favorite artist:

The brilliant team of artists who created the French advertising posters on my walls. They didn't sign their work.

Number one on my bucket list:

Actually I have the opposite kind of list. Things I am banishing from my life. I am already well into that list but . . . next up is NOT staying where I am. I love leaving. I am thinking to sell everything, pack my dog and two suitcases and head out. It's time to travel light.

Anything else you'd like to add:

I think everyone should be writing a novel. At all times.
