Author I draw inspiration from: With my early books it was Nick Hornby, with my later, non-genre books it was Maggie O'Farrell, with my current darker thrillers it is Sabine Durrant.
Favorite place to read a book: On a sun lounger, in full sun, dripping with sweat.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: I wouldn't want to be stuck in an elevator with anyone apart from a paramedic as I'd be having a panic attack. Or, actually anyone with a brown paper bag and a soothing demeanor would do.
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: It was in my early 20's when I was reading my boyfriend's books and thinking that all the male writers were young and hip and all the female writers were old and worthy and that someone needed to turn that around and maybe it could be me.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: Paperback, ideally, but a hardback is also nice. As long as it's made of paper I'm happy.
The last book I read: A Fatal Inheritance by Rachel Rhys. It's a gorgeous mystery set on the French Riviera in the 1940's, very evocative and lyrical.
Pen & paper or computer: Computer for writing my book. Pen and paper for the occasional stream of consciousness I have spew out of my head in order to know where I'm headed.
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: No idea. I can never really remember characters from books, just the way books made me feel while I was reading them.
If I wasn’t an author, I’d be a: If money was no object, a midwife, if I was still having to support my current lifestyle, then an editor.
Favorite decade in fashion history: 1950's.
Place I’d most like to travel: I'd like to do a global island tour, visit all those little dots on the map, the Scottish Islands, the Pacific Islands, those funny little islands stranded 1000 miles away from any other form of civilization.
My signature drink: My friends would say Champagne. I would probably say Champagne too.
Favorite artist: My friend Grace O'Connor. Genuinely.
Number one on my bucket list: It used to be 'own a dog' but I do now own a dog. So maybe 'own another dog'.
