Author of Snow Place Like Home

On a rare trip home for the holidays, Ella may have finally uncovered the secret to a joy-filled future by getting lost in her past. Ella Wilson has avoided home and the holidays for nearly a decade. For her, the season is plagued by a jinx that’s brought nothing but painful memories: her mother’s death nearly two decades ago, her fiancé’s abandonment last year, and now the loss of her job as an art curator. But without work to occupy her, home is exactly where Ella has ended up. And somehow, she’s also been roped into planning the town’s Christmas tree auction—side by side with her first love. Seth Hamil knows that home is where the heart is, and for him, it’s always been the sleepy community of Bellepoint, Pennsylvania . . . and for a while in high school that included Ella Wilson. Since then, he’s been married and widowed and has spent the year throwing himself into his career as a music teacher and trying to keep his wife’s memory alive, starting with the church fundraiser she launched to support local kids. So, despite their history, Seth isn’t about to let his wife’s vision for the event be easily dismissed by Ella’s temporary presence and big-city ideas. To find a way to work together, the two strike a deal: Ella can incorporate her splashy ideas into the auction if she will allow Seth to show her why Christmas is about more than decorations. Soon both begin to wonder whether fate has brought them together for a fresh start—and if Christmas wishes really can come true.

Author I draw inspiration from:

Maya Angelou and Nora Roberts (The Dream Trilogy)

Favorite place to read a book:

I've been listening to a lot of audio books, so I'll say while I'm walking.

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:

I've been stuck in an elevator twice and it's not something I'd like to imagine doing again. But if I could be stuck in a room with a book character, I'd like it to be Seth from Snow Place Like Home. Seth loves music, especially Christmas music, so we could sing Christmas carols to keep our minds off being locked in that room. :)

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:

As a teenager I read my mother's books that came through the Doubleday subscription. I had just finished reading Star by Danielle Steele and I kept thinking of all the things I would have done differently in the story. That inspired me to begin writing my own stories and plays that I never let anyone see. So it wasn't really my intention at that point to become a published author. That goal didn't come until later in life, but the reason was still the same, I just wanted to be able to tell stories my way.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:

I don't dislike any of these options. At the moment audiobook is my preference because I spend so many hours staring at the computer screen that my eyes tire easily. With audio, I can listen while I walk on the track and do housework. I'd say ebook, paperback and then hardback are my next order of preference.

The last book I read:

Rising Tides by Nora Roberts. It's a re-read for me. Actually, I think I've read it at least five times. But it's part of one of my favorite series by her. Sometimes I like to do re-reads when I'm writing because I already know how the story will make me feel and that's comforting when I'm working through my own characters' rocky road to love.

Pen & paper or computer:

Both! It's really a mood thing for me. Sometimes when I don't know what my characters should do next, I'll take a break and watch one of my comfort shows. It's usually a black and white--I Love Lucy, The Patty Duke Show, Petticoat Junction, Green Acres. Being away from the computer and focusing on something else usually sparks my creativity after a while, and that's when I'll grab pen and paper to write whatever scene has come to my mind at that moment.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with:

Kate Powell from Nora Roberts's Dream Trilogy. I loved the trio of heroines in these books, but always felt more drawn to Kate since I can be very focused on my career and extremely loyal to my family and friends at the same time.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:

So, in addition to being an author I am a full-time paralegal. I've worked in the field of law since I was in high school and wouldn't want to do anything else.

Favorite decade in fashion history:

I love the dresses of the Regency era, but couldn't imagine having to wear all those undergarments, lol.

Place I’d most like to travel:

My top two places to visit have always been Ireland and Italy. I'm excited to be traveling to Italy in the fall this year for a booksigning. I loved seeing pictures of the countryside in Ireland and hearing about all the delicious foods in Italy. Even though I'm a very picky eater, lol

My signature drink:

Hot green tea or cranberry juice.

Favorite artist:

Whitney Houston will always be my favorite singer.

Number one on my bucket list:

Traveling internationally.
