Author of The Phantom Enforcer

A supernatural journal. Two kids in over their heads. Can they lead a new Chicago police officer to success in the dangerous south side of the city?

Danielle and Noah’s curiosity gets the best of them when they find another magical diary about an officer’s second year in the country’s second-largest police force. While Dani comes to grips with being a minority female in a male-dominated profession, Noah joins the story as a phantom with unique magical abilities. They soon discover that their past trips have caused unforeseen historical consequences, including introducing an evil phantom with lethal powers.

They must now figure out how to return to the part of the story they interfered with and fix their mistakes. The kids seek help from the strange bookstore owner, but the spellbound solutions are risky and untested.

Can Noah master his newfound phantom powers to save the townspeople stuck in the books?

The Phantom Enforcer is the action-filled second book in the First Responder fantasy series. If you like adventurous kids, clever humor, and pages jam-packed with suspense, then you’ll love J.W. Jarvis’s blending of reality and enchantment.

3% of all book sales go to First Responders Children’s Foundation, which provides financial support to children who have lost a parent in the line of duty.

Author I draw inspiration from:

It's really difficult to just pick one, but the author that impressed me the most to get my career started was Mark Dawson. He was a lawyer turned full-time writer and has had a successful John Milton thriller series as an indie author. I am hoping to make the same transition from my IT career someday.

Favorite place to read a book:

In bed at night with my LED neck light and a good paperback. I don't mind reading on e-readers when I am traveling, but I like the feel and page-turning of an actual book.

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:

The Jack Reacher series by Lee Child is one of my favorites. During the short ride, I would ask him for a few tips on close encounter self-defense moves.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:

Twenty years ago I used to read to my son every night. I would observe how a child's little mind absorbs the story and always wanted to produce something that would help shape their minds. I varied a little in my actual writing career, deciding to write for a more mature audience, so I could get more of my ideas on paper.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:

Hardbacks look great on your bookshelf, but not as comfortable for casual reading. E-books are super convenient, especially while sitting on a long flight or waiting in a long line. Paperbacks are just perfect for me. I like turning the pages, using bookmarks, and seeing the artwork physically.

The last book I read:

Currently reading James Patterson's new thriller Blow Back. Pretty crazy since its about a US President that abuses his power to make progress on the war on terror using unconventional ways.

Pen & paper or computer:

I type too fast to use pen & paper, plus my handwriting is terrible! I love using software to make the writing process easier and more organized. I leverage tools like Livingwriter for my manuscripts, Vellum for my book formatting, and ProWritingAid for editing prior to sending to real editors.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with:

It would be a blast to be friends with James Bond from Casino Royale. His chivalry, bravery, and thirst to make the bad guys pay is something I can relate to. I just make the bad guys pay in my books.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:

I would enjoy being an actor. The filmmaking process is so interesting and requires so many people to make something spectacular. Movies take you away to different worlds, just like books. Books are better at making you feel like you are part of that world.

Favorite decade in fashion history:

80s for sure, the best music ever made. It will stand the test of time, thankfully the fashion didn't.

Place I’d most like to travel:

The Caribbean is my favorite destination. The Atlantic ocean is just so much more enjoyable and gorgeous than the Pacific. The islands are perfectly setup for a relaxing vacation.

My signature drink:

Coffee with Italian sweet creamer for writing and a rye whiskey old-fashioned for relaxing.

Favorite artist:

I think singers, actors and actresses can be great role models. Dolly Parton is such a sweet and giving person, that has used her fame to make an impact on the non-entertainment world.

Number one on my bucket list:

I would love to take a ride in a fighter jet. I know they have services that do this, but not sure I trust them using old planes that have been taken out of service.
