Jenny Holiday
Author Interview - Jenny Holiday
Author of A Princess for Christmas.
Author I draw inspiration from: Molly O’Keefe (who also writes as M O’Keefe). She can do anything! Rom-coms, women’s fiction, heavy, angsty romance. And I feel like she just keeps getting better.
Favorite place to read a book: In bed.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: I’m going to say any of the heroes from Sandra Owens’s K12 series. They are former Navy SEALs who are in private security—you know, the type of dude who can get out of any tight situation in under 60 seconds. (My goal in this situation, perhaps unlike many others, would not be to remain stuck, no matter how appealing my companion was; it would be to get the heck out of there ASAP!)
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: I’ve wanted to be an author for as long as I can remember—since early elementary school. I just convinced myself it wasn’t practical and so took a long detour before I actually became one.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: Ebook. Portable and font-adjustable!
The last book I read: Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade. A fanfic author finds herself dating the actor who plays the fictional character she writes about. A delight!
Pen & paper or computer: Computer. I don’t think I could write a book with a pen! (Like, seriously, I might have to change careers.)
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Is it tacky to pick one of my own? LOL, I am going to do it anyway! I think Gia Gallo, one of the friends from my Bridesmaids Behaving Badly series, would make a great friend. She is fun, funny, adventurous, and always out for a good time, yet she is fiercely loyal and will hunt down anyone who hurts her friends.
If I wasn’t an author, I’d be a: : I’d like to be a theatre director. What I would most likely actually be doing is some kind of corporate communications, which is what I did before I started writing full-time.
Favorite decade in fashion history: 1980s! Neon and big bangs for the win!
Place I’d most like to travel: The maritime provinces of Canada, which is what I was supposed to be doing this past summer but had to cancel thanks to the Coronavirus. I live in Canada but I’ve never been out east.
My signature drink: Tanqueray and tonic
Favorite artist: : In the “famous/large-scale” sense: Jenny Holzer. Closer to home, I am a fan of Janet Hill, who’s local to me and paints a lot of things, including women war generals.
Number one on my bucket list: See the northern lights, which is something I have managed not to do a Minnesota childhood and a Canadian adulthood. If money were no object, I’d fly to Winnipeg, Manitoba, and take the train to Churchill, which is a two-day journey. They have special domed cars so you can see the sky on the way. In Churchill, I’d hang out in a lodge and drink cocoa and watch the sky.
