Author of All I'm Asking

Online high school teacher Naomi wants to do it all: do everything she can for her students, support her daughter as she struggles with a new school, and help her best friend follow her career dreams. When she fails at all three, she'll rely on a candy-loving book club to help transform her soured family relationships back into sweet ones.

Author I draw inspiration from: Louise Penny. She writes beautifully and makes you fall in love with her characters.

Favorite place to read a book: In the sun by the water. Preferably ocean water.

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: I'd love to be stuck with Topher and Nihal from Sophie Kinsella's LOVE YOUR LIFE. They were secondary characters, but so so entertaining. I could easily hang out with those guys for a couple of hours in an elevator.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: When I was young I dreamed of it, but I think it was when I took up writing again several years ago and discovered I really did know how to write a story that I saw it as a real possibility. "Author" had a new, inspiring ring to it.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: Hardback (but I read 'em all)

The last book I read: A Door Between Us by Ehsaneh Sadr

Pen & paper or computer: Computer

Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Zoya, from Anish Bhatia's THE RULES OF ARRANGEMENT. Zoya is smart, funny, and kind. I think we'd have great fun complaining about our families while simultaneously going on and on about how great they are. Plus all our get-togethers would be food-centered and delicious.

Place I’d most like to travel: So. Many. Places.

My signature drink: Dr. Pepper

Favorite artist: What kind of artist? I'm going with music. My favorite musical artists have always been the Indigo Girls.

Number one on my bucket list: Publish a book!

Stories she loves best–to read and to write– feature characters from all walks of life who learn from one another. When she isn’t writing, you’ll find J. Marie exploring all the K-12 public education world has to offer through teaching, learning, and supporting others in their educational roles.

In spite of trying to live in other parts of the U.S., J. Marie accepted her fate and now embraces six-month winters in Minnesota, showing off photos of hiking in sub-zero temperatures. She lives in the Twin Cities with her family, two cats, and a never-ending supply of Dr. Pepper.
