Author Interview - C A Legorreta
Author of The Creosote Bush
The Creosote Bush follows a young woman named Ani as she enters art school in Seattle, falls in love, loses her way, and ultimately finds herself. Strongly influenced by science, religion, and skepticism, she is earnest and imperfect, an odd mix of curious and cautious, and her interactions with the people and situations around her reveal uncanny truths about herself and the human condition. This is love story, coming-of-age, and philosophical exploration all rolled into one. What sets this book apart are the many thought-provoking discussions that invite the reader to join in and continue with others long after setting the book down.
Author I draw inspiration from: Maria Popova inspires me with her lyrical writing and beautiful mind.
Favorite place to read a book: On the go! As a mother of three, I listen to most of my books while cleaning, driving, and walking the dog.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Lazlo Strange, from Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. I find Lazlo's ability to see and create beauty in the world around him wonderfully refreshing.
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: Being an author feels to me like one aspect of who I've always been. I am a creator. I write, paint, crochet, and sew. I love the act of creating, and have since I was a child.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: The Creosote Bush is available in hardback, paperback, and ebook.
The last book I read: I recently completed In the Dreamhouse, a memoir by Carmen Maria Machado. I am currently listening to Splendors and Glooms by Laura Amy Schlitz
Pen & paper or computer: I write notes to myself on pen and paper, and use the computer to flesh out the details.
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: I'd love to be best friends with Cyra from Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth. Cyra is curious and complicated and she has mastered the art of turning her pain into strength.
If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: coffee shop owner who displays the work of local artists and who hosts weekly open mics
Favorite decade in fashion history: I love the freedom and simplicity of the 1990's
Place I’d most like to travel: Ireland. I'd love to explore old castles and sample local pubs.
My signature drink: white tea
Favorite artist: There are so many, but I really like Gustav Klimt and Waterhouse
Number one on my bucket list: swim in a cenote

Author Bio: C A Legorreta was born in Colorado. She spent her nomadic childhood exploring the natural world and the many worlds found within books. Her three brothers taught her how to be tough and that praying for something (namely, a sister) doesn’t always mean you’ll get what you ask for. After taking ten years to earn a BA in History (during which time she travelled and tutored and found her way in and out of her head), she spent the next decade promoting books and access to information in the King County Library System in Washington State. She currently resides in South Carolina, where she balances writing with the mysteries and mayhem of motherhood.
