Author of Of Lies and Honey

Harper Alexander is devastated by a miscarriage even though she thought she never wanted to be a mother. Because of her husband’s determination to create a family and her inability to carry a child to term, they consider alternative options.

As the result of a secret love affair, Callie Sebastian becomes pregnant. Her socialite mother is appalled by her teenage daughter’s behavior. To protect the family’s reputation, she sends Callie to a Catholic boarding school for wayward girls.

When Raina Edwin’s third child starts school, leaving her with an empty house, she begins to long for another baby. Unfortunately, their farm will not support a new addition to their family. To fill the void, Raina starts a new business: selling honey.

As Harper, Callie, and Raina deal with their strife, their lives collide in unexpected ways. A revealed secret forces each of them to make choices that will alter their roles as mothers and daughters forever.

Author I draw inspiration from:

Virginia Woolf in particular. She's a master at writing stream-of-consciousness. I love Mrs. Dalloway and A Room of One's Own

Favorite place to read a book:

A Cape Cod beach

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:

Mary Boleyn from The Other Boleyn Girl. I'd love to know how she seemed to rise above all of the drama in the court, in particular that surrounding her sister and brother, and how she really felt about King Henry VIII

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:

I think I've always known that I wanted to be an author. I began writing books when I was in my teens. But, I always allowed life to get in the way of me seriously pursuing a career as an author until my kids went off to college. Somehow, the emptiness they left behind gave me the motivation to work hard to publish my first novel.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:

Hardbacks are too cumbersome to hold; my preferred reading style is paperback. I'm often behind the trending books because I wait until they come out on paperback before buying them. I like ebooks for traveling (less to carry). The first audiobook that I ever "read" was my own, All That is Sacred.

The last book I read:

A Little Liar by Mitch Albom. I just love his body of work. I aspire to be the female Mitch Albom. His ideas are fresh and memorable, his writing is crisp, and I've been inspired by every book I've read of his. The Five People You Meet in Heaven is one of my all-time favorites.

Pen & paper or computer:

Absolutely the computer when writing a book. Pen and paper when writing poetry or journaling.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with:

Tully Hart in Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah. I like her spunk, her courage and her confidence.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:

I am a high school English teacher. I absolutely love working my students. My dream job, however, would be to write and direct films.

Favorite decade in fashion history:

I love the Victorian and Romantic eras. Their clothes are just so beautiful.

Place I’d most like to travel:

Next, I'd like to travel to Scotland and Ireland. I'm hoping to do so in 2025 or 26. Various destinations in Europe are always on my bucket list. I've been fortunate enough to check off several.

My signature drink:

Coffee: hot and black OR espresso martinis

Favorite artist:

I don't really have one. I have many. My favorite painting is Starry Night by Van Gogh. I also love music and spend more time listening to music than I do viewing art. Among my favorites are Coldplay, Train, Elton John and Adele.

Number one on my bucket list:

To see the Northern Lights whilst in one of those glass igloos.
