Author I draw inspiration from:
Carrie: Jenny Lawson. Never have I laughed so much when reading than I did with her books. At one point, I was laughing so hard I was crying and had to stop reading because I couldn't see the page through my tears. She has a true gift for storytelling that deeply inspires me; Jessica: Elizabeth Gilbert's nonfiction and Fredrik Backman or John Greene for fiction - I love the way they write!

Favorite place to read a book:
Carrie:
On my deck in the summer when the sun is shining; Jessica: In my bed

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:
Carrie:
Harold Fry from The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce; Jessica: Kristina from The Emigrants series by Vilhelm Moberg. I want to know everything about what life was like for an emigrant pioneer.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:
Carrie:
I was in high school and left a funny note for my parents about how my cat broke an antique of my mom's. But instead of just reporting the incident, I spun a tale about how the events went down. My parents thought is was so hilarious, that they saved the note. I never knew my words could evoke emotions like that, and I knew I wanted to do it again and again; Jessica: While working as a lifestyle editor at American Girl magazine. I knew I wanted to write my own book and luckily Carrie had the same dream!

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:
Carrie:
I've become an ebook reader, because it allows me to read anywhere--even in the dark--more easily. But if I fall in love with a book, I typically will purchase it to put on my shelf as a hardback; Jessica: Paperback for reading in bed. Hardback for everything else.

The last book I read:
Carrie:
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. It's been long overdue but certainly did not disappoint; Jessica: Pachinko (excellent!) Am currently reading Beartown by Fredrik Backman. I'm a big fan of his novels.

Pen & paper or computer:
Carrie:
I lean computer. I tend to start with pen & paper, but quickly realize how much more efficient and productive I'd be if I move to the computer. The computer almost always wins; Jessica: Definitely pen & paper.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with:
Carrie
: Nora Charles from The Thin Man series of the 1930s; Jessica: I think I could hang out with Precious Ramotswe from The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series. I find her so lovely, charming and funny!

If I wasn’t an author, I’d be a:
Carrie:
Documentary film maker. I LOVE the storytelling of documentaries and would love to make one (or many) someday; Jessica: I’d be a Trophy wife. I mean, a girl can dream

Favorite decade in fashion history:
Carrie:
It's a tie between the 1930s and the 1960s. It just depends on where I'm going or what mood I'm in; Jessica: Probably the 20s. I love those flapper dresses.

Place I’d most like to travel:
Carrie:
Cuba; Jessica: Anywhere in South America. I've been to a lot of other places but never there.

My signature drink:
Carrie:
Bloody Mary; Jessica: Water. I'm totally boring. I might get fancy with a sparkling water from time to time.

Favorite artist:
Carrie:
Wayne White; Jessica: I'm a big fan of Lisa Congdon's work. Also, my husband. He's super talented.

Number one on my bucket list:
Carrie:
French immersion in the South of France; Jessica: Return to Norway!
