1. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Jojo Moyes just released the third book in this series, Still Me - I chose it as my February selection from Book of the Month. But for this post, I think I need to return to the original love story that started it all. If you haven't read this one, yet, you should. If you read it a long time ago, it is time to revisit it. This book stuck with me long after I put it down.

From the publisher: Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life—steady boyfriend, close family—who has barely been farther afield than their tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for ex–Master of the Universe Will Traynor, who is wheelchair bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge life—big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel—and now he’s pretty sure he cannot live the way he is.

2. The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman

It might seem odd to include a book about a family who is cursed - whomever they fall in love with will incur a tragic death. But the love stories abound in this prequel to Alice Hoffman's cult classic, Practical Magic. Themes of love in all contexts are explored in this book and it isn't the tearjerker that #1 and #3 are...

From the publisher: For the Owens family, love is a curse that began in 1620, when Maria Owens was charged with witchery for loving the wrong man. Hundreds of years later, in New York City at the cusp of the sixties, when the whole world is about to change, Susanna Owens knows that her three children are dangerously unique. Difficult Franny, with skin as pale as milk and blood red hair, shy and beautiful Jet, who can read other people’s thoughts, and charismatic Vincent, who began looking for trouble on the day he could walk.

3. The Fault in our Stars by John Green

I read this with my book club shortly after it came out - I don't think I've ever cried so hard over a book. I put off seeing the movie for a long time because I knew I'd cry again. I finally rented it at home, watched it by myself, and just let myself cry through the whole thing. Totally worth it - this story is SO touching. I'm not sure I'll read it again - I know how it goes, but if you haven't read this one, yet, you're missing out!

From the publisher: Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

4. Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton

This book comes out on February 6th, but you'll want to pre-order your copy now. I just finished reading this book last week and I'm over the moon about it. My review will post on February 13th and my author interview with Chanel Cleeton will post on the 15th. Can't wait to get started? You can read the first chapter, here. This book explores themes of forbidden love in the time of war and revolution. Chanel's writing is just gorgeous.

From the publisher: Havana, 1958. The daughter of a sugar baron, nineteen-year-old Elisa Perez is part of Cuba's high society, where she is largely sheltered from the country's growing political unrest--until she embarks on a clandestine affair with a passionate revolutionary... Miami, 2017. Freelance writer Marisol Ferrera grew up hearing romantic stories of Cuba from her late grandmother Elisa, who was forced to flee with her family during the revolution. Elisa's last wish was for Marisol to scatter her ashes in the country of her birth.

5. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

And for your Galentine's celebration - a story of female friendships. You know how they say the book is always better than the movie? Well in this case, the book and the "movie" (really a short television series) were EQUALLY good. So if you were caught in the Big Little Lies storm last year and couldn't get enough of Reese Witherspoon's adaption, then you definitely need to give the book a go. And did you hear the good news? There is going to be a Big Little Lies season 2!

From the publisher: A murder...A tragic accident...Or just parents behaving badly? What’s indisputable is that someone is dead. Madeline is a force to be reckoned with. She’s funny, biting, and passionate; she remembers everything and forgives no one. Celeste is the kind of beautiful woman who makes the world stop and stare but she is paying a price for the illusion of perfection. New to town, single mom Jane is so young that another mother mistakes her for a nanny. She comes with a mysterious past and a sadness beyond her years. These three women are at different crossroads, but they will all wind up in the same shocking place.
