Hi.

Welcome to Hasty Book List, where I document and review the books I read. Hope you have a nice stay!

5 Things You Need to Create the Perfect Reading Nook

5 Things You Need to Create the Perfect Reading Nook

5 Things You Need to Create the Perfect Reading Nook

1. A Candle

A candle sets the mood for relaxation and offers a nice, warm, flickering light to your reading nook. My favorite candles are by Diptyque - yes, they are expensive. But they last longer than any other candle I've tried and they fill a large room with beautiful fragrance. Some of the less expensive candles don't smell unless you're right up on top of them. Diptyque candles never smell too strong or overwhelming but you can smell them even if they are lit across the room.

2. A Chair

The most important part of a reading nook is a place to sit. I go back and forth between wanting a nice, cozy chair where I can curl up and get really comfortable....or a more upright chair that is still comfortable but not so comfortable that I find myself falling asleep. I recently read an article on Pop Sugar about this chair on Amazon being one of the best buys you can find. It has great reviews and it is really cute!

3. Beautiful Glassware

When I set time aside for reading, I usually pour myself a glass of something to drink before snuggling in. The last thing I want to do is have to get back up for a drink after getting lost in the story...so I encourage you to prepare for this before you get started. I love these vintage-looking etched cocktail glasses. No matter what you're drinking (water? champagne?) these glasses will make you feel a little fancier, a little more luxurious in your reading nook.

4. A Throw

I cannot curl up with a book without a throw. Even if it isn't cold in the room, I just love the weight of a good blanket wrapped around my shoulders or draped over my legs. These color block throws by Urban Habitat caught my eye when I was perusing Amazon the other day. I like that they are mostly gray with just a touch of color (the blue and yellow are my favorite.) These would be perfect draped over the chair pictured above when you aren't reading.

5. A Bouquet of Flowers

Last but not least, I love a simple bouquet of fresh flowers. Every once in awhile I need to look away from my book to rest my eyes a bit or think about a passage I just read. What better thing to rest my eyes on than a little bit of nature brought indoors? Sometimes I'll pick up a bouquet at my local farmer's market on a Saturday morning or I might grab a dozen tulips at the grocery store. You might even want to order these for a book-loving friend as a little surprise.

Bonus: A book!

Need a little more inspiration for designing your reading nook? Check out Styled: Secrets for Arranging Rooms, from Tabletops to Bookshelves by Emily Henderson and Angelin Borsics. This beautiful coffee table book will look great as decoration in your reading nook while also serving as inspiration for arranging the five elements I've mentioned above. And if you're lucky and you have room for a bookshelf (my one-bedroom apartment doesn't allow me to keep many books!) then you'll definitely want a copy of this book!
