The Wonder
Book Review - The Wonder by Emma Donoghue
Another great book recommendation from Reese Witherspoon (my celebrity book worm crush...check out her Instagram for the latest and greatest books.) The Wonder is about a young girl who seems to be surviving on nothing but water. The story is told from the perspective of a nurse who is hired to keep watch on her and determine if it is all a hoax. Are her parents secretly feeding her food and capitalizing on the donations from strangers who travel all over Ireland to see this child miracle? Or is she really a miracle child surviving on nothing but the tiniest sips of water?
I suggested this book for one of my book clubs and I can't wait to discuss it...there is a lot to unpack in this one. This book could spark discussions on religion, morals, adult supervision, parenting, and white lies. The tough part about this book is that it was a bit slow in the beginning - the best part of the story doesn't occur until you're 3/4 of the way through. I've already heard from some of my friends that they couldn't get through it - but those who read the whole thing said it was worth it!
