The Spy
Book Review - The Spy by Paulo Coelho
Let's be honest, I chose this one based entirely on its cover. I mean, c'mon...that headdress! Plus it was only 4 hours long on Audible so I could listen to it from beginning to end on one trip from Bloomington, IN to Chicago. (Perhaps you didn't know this about me, but I live in Chicago and commute to Bloomington, IN each week for work. I teach apparel merchandising classes for their School of Art and Design.)
The Spy by Paulo Coelho is based on the true story of Mata Hari, a Dutch exotic dancer who was convicted of being a spy for Germany during World War I. Within a year of arriving in Paris she went from being penniless to being the most celebrated courtesan. But war makes people paranoid and although her only crime was being an independent woman, she found herself accused of espionage.
