Lucky You
Book Review - Lucky You by Erika Carter
One of my favorite things about Book of the Month Club is the opportunity to read books before their official release date. This book by Erika Carter comes out on March 21, 2017. It is about three girls who live off the grid for a year. It all started with Rachel who joins her boyfriend in a quest to find "health" by living off the grid. Rachel invites Ellie and Chloe (two girls who were waitresses with her at an old bar) to join her. Ellie lost herself in alcohol and sex. Chloe struggles with mental illness that manifests itself through pulling out her hair. Rachel ties her self identity to whatever boyfriend she has at the time. All have issues to work through and are hoping to find answers through "The Project" and the quest to find "health." Or at least this is a good excuse to get away for awhile.
I'm still processing my thoughts on this one. I really enjoyed the book, especially the characters which were flawed but likable. But the ending...I'm still processing. I haven't decided if I like it or not. It wasn't an ending where everything was tied up nicely and I was left with a lot of questions. But isn't it nice sometimes when a book isn't too tidy from beginning to end?
