Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers
Book Review - Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach
My husband chose "Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers" by Mary Roach for our drive from Arkansas to Chicago. This book covers a wide range of scenarios in which human cadavers might find themselves...some humorous and some horrifying. The most interesting result of reading this book is talking to my husband about what we want done with our bodies after death. I never thought about having that conversation in my early thirties.
So what are some of the things that can happen to a human body after death (besides being buried, of course)?
- You can be cremated, but there are environmental implications with this option
- You can donate your body to science, but you can't dictate what kind of scientific study it is used for
- You might be used as a crash test dummy
- You might be used by medial students to practice surgery skills
- You might be used for a science exhibit at a museum
- You might be used to study the decaying process
- And more! Read the book to learn about it all!
