The Devil in the White City
Book Review - The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America by Erik Larson
This book was published back in 2002, but now that I'm moving to Chicago I thought I should finally get around to reading it! It has two main stories running concurrently: the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and a serial killer who used the fair to lure unsuspecting women to his hotel. Both stories were wonderful in their own way - I'm a big fan of history and architecture so I was intrigued by the chapters about the development of the Chicago World's Fair but those chapters were a little over shadowed by the murder mystery chapters. It is hard to compete with a good true crime! Regardless, the book was fantastic and worth reading. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
