About halfway through reading The Girl in White Gloves by Kerri Maher, I thought to myself I wonder if Meghan Markle likes to read historical fiction, because I would love to discuss this book with her and compare her experiences with that of Grace Kelly. I recently started following Elizabeth Holmes of So Many Thoughts on Instagram, and now I’m fascinated by the royal family and the lives they lead. Of course the announcement about The Sussexes leaving their official duties as Royal Family Members has been all over the news so it was front of mind as I read this book.

The Girl in White Gloves by Kerri Maher chronicles the life of Grace Kelly from the time she lived at home with her parents just dreaming of a career in the theater through to her untimely death. Of course the novel includes her fabulous career in Hollywood as a movie actress working with leading men such as Clark Gable, Gary Cooper, Bing Crosby and Cary Grant (just to name a few) as well as her marriage to Rainier III, Prince of Monaco and her many love affairs.

But the part that struck me the most is what it must be like to give up a successful career for the person you love, to leave behind everything you know to live in a foreign country, much like Meghan Markle had to do to marry Prince Harry. I’ve been a fan of Kerri Maher since I read and reviewed The Kennedy Debutante. She has a way of bringing to life historical figures in a captivating way. She did so with Kick Kennedy in The Kennedy Debutante and she did so with Grace Kelly in The Girl in White Gloves. Read them and enjoy.
