Meet Me in Monaco
Book Review - Meet Me in Monaco by Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb
The first book I read and reviewed by this duo was Last Christmas in Paris. I read it as my husband and I prepared to move from Chicago to St. Louis, a move we weren’t 100% excited about but was a necessary step in working toward our goals. I felt like I was experiencing my last Christmas in Chicago while reading the Last Christmas in Paris and I was really heartbroken about the whole thing. Despite the emotional time, I really adored the book so I was excited to have another opportunity to read a book by Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb.
Meet Me in Monaco is a beautiful novel about Sophie, a perfumer in Cannes, who finds herself harboring Grace Kelly as she flees from a pesky paparazzi photographer. Sophie and Grace strike up a friendship as Grace discovers Sophie’s talent for creating unique and lovely scents. Will Grace Kelly’s notoriety help save Sophie’s struggling business? In an unlikely twist, Sophie also strikes up a friendship (and later romance) with the paparazzi photographer who isn’t as pesky as he first appeared. But Sophie is in a relationship with millionaire Lucien. Will kind, docile Sophie have the courage to leave Lucien to pursue true love?
I adored Meet me in Monaco. I loved learning about the art and science of making perfume. It certainly made me want to seek out an artisan perfumer who makes fragrances from real flowers as opposed to artificial scents. I would love to find someone like Sophie to purchase my perfume from, so much more romantic than going to the department store. I enjoyed reading about Grace Kelly and the author’s perspective on what it must have been like to be pursued by the paparazzi so relentlessly while trying to marry the love of your life.
