I was first introduced to Kristan Higgins through her book Good Luck With That, a book I adored. It is worth click that link to read my review, but also to see pics from last year’s vacation to Kauai, Hawaii. In April, Kristan’s publicist reached out to me about her latest novel, Life and Other Inconveniences. The email included a picture of the book cover and I almost rejected it immediately. Those of you who know me best, know that I have a HUGE soft spot for dogs and I absolutely refuse to read books about dogs because I become inconsolable if a character even looks at a dog wrong…so imagine what I’m like in the likely case that the dog is injured or dies in the book. So a book with a dog on the cover? That’s usually a hard no from me. But I LOVED Kristan’s previous book, so I took a huge risk. When my husband saw the book cover he was very worried. But I want to say it loud and clear, this book is SAFE for all dog lovers….so go purchase your copy today!

I thought this was a beautiful book of a dysfunctional family with each member facing his or her own internal battles. Each character faced challenges early on that caused relationship issues throughout their lives. This story is about overcoming those challenges over time in order to come to terms with life’s inconveniences and move on to live a life as whole and happy as possible. This was a great end-of-summer read - an easy page-turner that left me feeling happy about the world in the end. There was a little glamour and fashion in there, too, as Genevieve started a successful fashion company which Riley’s friends adore. You all know how much I love those little artistic touches in a novel.
