Happy And You Know It
Book Review - Happy And You Know It by Laura Hankin
As I read Happy and You Know It by Laura Hankin, I thought Reese Witherspoon would love this book. The thought occurred to me just like that. As if Reese and I are best friends and regularly talk about the books we are reading and swap recommendations. The book reminded me a lot of Big Little Lies and Little Fires Everywhere, both of which Reese’s production company turned into mini-series. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed that the next adaption is this book by Laura Hankin.
Happy and You Know It is about Claire, a struggling musician who takes a job singing for a playgroup led by Whitney. Claire is quickly welcomed into the group, blurring the lines between friends and being the paid help. It isn’t long before Claire sees past the fancy homes and high-end clothes and discovers some of the playgroup mom’s darker secrets. Claire struggles between discretion and speaking up for what is right.
I don’t have kids of my own, but all of these books about the dark lives behind the perfect mom facade are FASCINATING to me. It does make me think twice about having kids… These books make moms look kind of crazy. Ha! I couldn’t get the thought of this being a television mini series the whole time I read it. I could just picture Reese playing the role of Whitney (and I’m not really one to think of which actors would play the characters in the book I’m reading…I’d rather give them unique characteristics in my imagination.)
