Books narrated by Barbara:

I've recorded many series over the years and one of my favourites has to be the Amelia Peabody books by the late Elizabeth Peters. We became such good friends over 20 titles and I miss her. Happily, when you go to Audible or Penguin Random House or Recorded Books or just Google, you can listen to many clips from various titles. Other faves would be 'The Queen and I' by Sue Townsend (hilarious), 'Brigit Jones' Diaries' (hilarious). Honestly, the range of subject matter over the years has made me what I consider to be a 'genre free' recording artist. And, indeed, I am grateful.

My 2 cents:

Anyone in this life who gets to follow their heart and be creative should sharpen their 'discipline of gratitude'. Having more than one string to my bow has kept all my disparate efforts sharp and focused. I am often asked, 'what's my favourite work...TV, film, theatre, audiobooks...?' Without hesitation, it has to be...I love what is 'in front of me'.

While in England, I did alot of cabaret with my band and what I found was that having your toes in different disciplines affords you greater insight into the spoken word and its power. So, lyrics had more depth and when I sang it was, ultimately, to tell a story. One must engage the listener from the outset and to do that one must be centered and prepared. After all, you only make a first impression once. Unlike turning the pages in a book...with an audiobook, you can't skim.
