Author Interview - Marilyn Simon Rothstein

Author of Crazy to Leave You and WHO LOVES YOU BEST

About WHO LOVES YOU BEST:

A woman drops everything to spend more time with her grandchild, only to discover new truths about herself. A humorous, heartfelt, feel-good novel from the author of Crazy to Leave You.

For Jodi Wexler, a Florida doctor with a flourishing practice, only one thing’s missing: the chance to spend more time getting to know her eight-year-old granddaughter, Macallan.

When Jodi’s restauranteur daughter asks her to watch Macallan in the Berkshires while she takes care of some business out of town, Jodi can’t say yes fast enough. Neither Jodi’s podiatric patients nor her just-fired, suddenly retired husband can keep her away. But when Jodi arrives, she discovers she’s not the only grandma at Lisa’s house. Lisa’s mother-in-law, Di―a hard-nosed real estate agent―has moved into the house. What’s more, there’s Grannie Annie, the twenty-seven-year-old girlfriend of Lisa’s oddball father-in-law. They’re not the only surprises. Lisa’s marriage is faltering even as her new restaurant is taking off.

As the competition for Macallan’s attention among the three “grandmas” increases, Lisa drops a bomb about her life that changes everything. Under pressure, and determined to help her daughter, Jodi must choose her next step. Her decision surprises everyone―Jodi, most of all.

About Crazy to Leave You:

Don’t miss the season’s feel-good, laugh-out-loud novel, Crazy to Leave You

The latest from Marilyn Simon Rothstein, the riotously funny author of Husbands and Other Sharp Objects and Lift and Separate, takes readers on the journey of Lauren Leo, a forever dieting 41-year-old who is finally about to get married … until she’s dumped at the altar via text message–to her younger sister.

What happens next forces Lauren on a road to healing and self-acceptance, but only if she can deal with her mother’s advice to freeze her eggs and stay slim, or the older sister, a flamboyant actress, hanging out on her couch. Filled with hilarious mishaps, dysfunctional family drama, and happy accidents that lead to love, Crazy to Leave You will warm your audience’s hearts while simultaneously aching their cheeks from laughing.
Perfect for book clubs or to pack in your beach bag, Crazy to Leave You delivers a heroine readers will root for and an inspiring tale of second chances.

Author I draw inspiration from:

Since I was published, with the release of my debut novel Lift and Separate in 2016, I draw inspiration from the many women I now know who write fiction. Dynamos. Kind and generous.

Favorite place to read a book:

Easy! My green wood Adirondack chair at 5 PM in Maine with a drink on the wide arm.

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:

Any character smart enough to make the elevator work again. I am claustrophobic.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:

The day my mother brought me to the Fresh Meadows Public Library to get my first library card. We walked there. My sister was too young to write her own name. She drew an X on the application.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:

Paperback.

The last book I read:

Everything Must Go by Camille Pagan

Pen & paper or computer:

Computer.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with:

The character I would be best friends with is Marcy Hammer, the protagonist in my first two books: Lift and Separate and Husbands and Other Subjects. I am sure I would be helping her find new work and a new life when she is duped by her husband, The Bra King.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:

Frustrated writer

Favorite decade in fashion history:

The 1970s. I still own some bell bottoms with tapestry on the bottom and I have an embroidered white peasant shirt. A pair of Frye boots and I would be ready to go.

Place I’d most like to travel:

London to see a play written by my daughter

My signature drink:

Dr. Brown’s diet cream soda

Favorite artist:

My granddaughter.

Number one on my bucket list:

Staying alive forever. I need to see what happens.
