Author Interview - Liam Fialkov
Author of A Quantum Alibi
A mystery thriller intertwined with an inspiring coming-of-age story.
Author I draw inspiration from: I tend to alternate between reading mystery thrillers and literary fiction. So, if I have to choose one author, the name that comes to mind is Delia Owens. Even though she has only written one fictional novel, that wonderful novel incorporates the two genres, and it does it beautifully.
Favorite place to read a book: Sitting on my recliner in the living room, as well as listening to audiobooks while taking walks.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: The character that comes to mind is Don Juan, from the series of books by Carlos Castaneda. Don Juan is teaching the author some incredible lessons. I'm sure he would have a lesson for me.
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: After high school, I’ve found a job delivering books for a publishing house. Those packages were very heavy. One time I thought, I could write books instead of carrying them. But life took me in other directions, and it had taken me years to compose my first novel.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: eBook. It's easier for my eyes, as I can enlarge the size of the fonts.
The last book I read: I recently read “The Guest List” by Lucy Foley. It is a well-crafted mystery thriller.
Pen & paper or computer: I started with pen and paper, but now I type directly to the computer.
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: "Siddhartha" from the book "Siddhartha" by Hermann Hesse. Like him, I've spent many years searching for the truth.
If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: For the past 20 years, I made a living as a computer technician.
Favorite decade in fashion history: I don't understand much about fashion. I like comfortable clothes.
Place I’d most like to travel: The Far East.
My signature drink: Fresh carrot juice
Favorite artist: The Beatles. I grew up listening to their music, and it still moves and impresses me.
Number one on my bucket list: To have my books turn into movies.
Anything else you'd like to add: Writing fiction is a fascinating journey.
