Author Interview - Leslie Cohen
Author of My Ride or Die
“My Ride or Die is a novel about two friends who decide to give up their search for a perfect man and arrange to live together, while still seeing men on the side—but their careful plan soon begins to unravel with unexpected consequences. It's a fun journey, with plenty of romance thrown in.”
Author I draw inspiration from: ONE?! There are so many. Can I get a top three? Philip Roth, David Nicholls, Jonathan Tropper.
Favorite place to read a book: In bed with as few lights on as my eyes can handle. I may be blind by age 50 but at least I had some extremely atmospheric reading sessions.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Marjorie Morningstar from Marjorie Morningstar by Herman Wouk.
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: Probably sometime in law school, which, to be clear, is not the realization you're supposed to come to in law school. I think I always knew that I wanted to be a writer, but I had to take a very expensive and tedious detour to get there.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: Paperback. Hardback makes me feel like I'm trapped under something heavy.
The last book I read: Who Is Maud Dixon? By Alexandra Andrews
Pen & paper or computer: Computer. Although I do enjoy the occasional brilliant-at-3 AM-idea scrawled across a post-it that I can't read the next morning.
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Count Alexander Rostov from A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. He seems delightful.
If I weren’t an author, I’d be a: Professional tennis player. When I was twelve, I was #1 on Long Island. No big deal.
Favorite decade in fashion history: The 20s. Sparkly, beaded dresses with matching headbands? It can't be beat.
Place I’d most like to travel: I'd like to go to Japan, Greece, Croatia, but I'm not a great flyer so I tend to resist places that are more than seven hours away. That being said, if you show me an attractive enough sandwich and/or piece of sushi, I will get on that plane.
My signature drink: A Bud Light at Madison Square Garden while watching a Rangers game. Comes with a free pretzel. Cha-ching.
Favorite artist: Larry David
Number one on my bucket list: I'd like to write a TV show someday.
