Author Interview - John K. Danenbarger
Author I draw inspiration from: Mostly Albert Camus and Umberto Eco. More recently Donna Tartt and Delia Owens. But I am sure that almost all authors that I have read and admire have an influence on my writing, both positively and negatively.
Favorite place to read a book: I hate sitting around and waiting, letting my brain lie in wait. I read anywhere I wait, but much of my reading time is in my comfy chair in the bedroom. I listen to books on the treadmill.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with: Don’t know of one, let alone getting stuck in an elevator.
The moment I knew I wanted to become an author: Somewhere in 12th grade. It was the English teacher’s fault. She put a writer’s curse on me. But I will credit my mother for teaching me to read before kindergarten and making me like learning the English language.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook: Not particular and read (listen) to them all. Often all at the same time with different books.
The last book I read: Blowout by Rachel Maddow and A life Worth Living by Robert Zaretsky
Pen & paper or computer: Computer. I think with my fingers.
Book character I think I’d be best friends with: Never thought about it, nor care to.
If I wasn’t an author, I’d be a: I have always been something else, and wanting to be a writer. But if I had to choose, I would be a charter sailboat captain.
Favorite decade in fashion history: 1980’s in Sweden. Not telling why.
Place I’d most like to travel: I have either lived in or visited those places. I travel now to see my family and friends in the USA and Europe.
My signature drink: Doesn’t exist. But I love a double-malt scotch or an unfiltered hoppy red beer.
Favorite artist: Hard to pick, but maybe Caravaggio. I like lots of contemporary artists, but Caravaggio’s history is fascinating since he was such a scoundrel. Misfits are my favorite people.
Number one on my bucket list: Spend time with my family in the USA and Norway. And maybe take one last sailing trip between Italy and Corsica.
Anything else you'd like to add: I would like readers to know that my novel is getting rave reviews, but, if they would not mind spending some minutes giving a comment on Amazon, that would be of great help.
