25 Authors and Their Favorites Places to Read a Book You may remember I did a roundup of authors’ favorites places to read a while ago. This post features all new authors and lots of great answers! Find out where your favorite authors like to curl up and lose themselves in a good novel. Then hop on over to Facebook to tell us your favorite place to read a book!
It has been a while (way too long!), but I absolutely love reading a book in a bar. All by myself with a margarita and just enough light.
Audiobook on a walk outside. My previous jobs in finance piqued my appreciation for movement.
Feeding the birds and sitting on my porch as the sun sets while the crows in the ash tree caw and jockey for the final peanut of the day.
6am Café on the Mediterranean with a cappuccino and croissant. Otherwise, lounging anywhere with an unimpeded view of a large body of water.
On my back porch, when the sun is out, the weather is mild and the vines have grown up over the pergola.
In the rocking chair on my porch, with a cup of coffee beside me.
My idea reading spot is snuggled in an arm chair next to a window between a snowy day outside and a crackling fireplace inside. I would settle in for the day and get lost in a romance novel.
Snuggled in a cozy blanket on my sofa with my dogs nearby.
My husband and I built a reading nook in our attic, and its isolation from the rest of the house makes it the perfect place to hide out with a book.
In bed on a cold night with the covers pulled up to my chin, with just one arm sticking out to hold up the book and turn pages.
I have a wonderfully soft, mint-green couch in my bedroom that has a chaise longue and I love curling up on it, both to read and to write.
In front of our fire place at our home in Lake Como with a big cup of coffee next to me and a chunky grandma sweater wrapped around me. Heavenly!!!!
I love to read standing in my pool. I feel lucky to have a pool, and I stand because I can’t swim. But I can read.
On my laptop, in my recliner, with coffee, oh, and coffee. Maybe with an oatmeal raisin cookie, too.
My bed, under blankets with some crime show on TV.
Chintz-covered armchair in front of a crackling log fire, cup of tea in hand.
On the porch outside my 2nd floor bedroom at the lakehouse. It's double-wide so my dogs can cuddle me while I read. Though, frankly, it pretty much always turns into a cuddly nap.
Long car, plane, or train rides. I love that feeling of losing myself in another world, only to be jolted back to reality by the fact that I've arrived at my destination.
Ideally, sitting on a blanket under the shade of a tree. But realistically, I do most of my reading in bed.
On a little dive boat in Egypt, after lunch, before getting back into the water for the day's second dive. Diving is calming. It puts you in the right frame of mind for reading, and makes you receptive to good writing.
Seated beside my bookshelf, which is stacked with books. There's something about reading among old friends that I find enjoyable.
On a lounge chair facing the Caribbean Sea. If that's not possible, on my couch with my tuxedo cat suggled up against me.
In my library, adjacent to my home office. It's has a number of rare books from the 18th and 17th centuries. I feel their energy.
My favorite place to read a book is in bed, but it's not productive. I don't get through many pages before I fall asleep. My second choice, weather permitting, is outside in my yard.
In bed! My prime reading time is at night, curled up with my cat Francie (who usually tries to sit directly on or in front of my book).
