Ever since moving to Chicago, more and more of our vacations are in resort destinations such as San Diego, Palm Springs, Hawaii and Los Cabos. Over the years, I’ve developed a bit of a resort capsule collection - I never travel to a beach town or warm-weather climate without these essential items. I hope you can use my example to help you build your own.
Dresses

I love packing a variety of dresses on a resort vacation. They don’t take up a lot of space and they create a stunning outfit with minimal effort. I’ve had these four dresses for years and they are no longer available for purchase, but they are brands that I would definitely purchase from again. Many dresses have come in and out of my closet but these have stood the test of time.
Shoes

Swim Suit

Always pack two in case one hasn’t dried from the previous day. Having two also allows you to wash them between wears.
Sunglasses
Its a little luxurious to bring two pairs of sunglasses on a week-long vacation. But I get tired of all of my pictures looking the same because I’m wearing the same sunglasses. I like to bring two pairs just for a bit of variety.
Earrings

Earrings are the perfect way to punch up an outfit. I buy my statement resort earrings pretty much exclusively from Noonday.
Separates
J. Crew Denim Shorts - for throwing on over your swimsuit
J. Crew V-neck T-shirt - in a variety of colors for something to quick to throw on to get a bite to eat, or cook lunch at the condo, or as a coverup
Go simple and classic with your separates. You can change up your look with accessories, but you want to be able to mix and match your separates to create a variety of looks that will last the week.
Wrap
Gray Travel Wrap from LOFT
Even on warm-weather vacations, the evenings can get chilly. Not to mention the chilly airports! I would never travel without a wrap.
