5 Things You Didn’t Know About Christie Leigh Babirad: A Guest Post by Christie Leigh Babirad

I’m on maternity leave! During this time, a few of my favorite authors offered to step up and write guest posts so that this blog would remain active while I adjust to my new role as a mother. I may also be a bit slower to respond. Thanks for understanding and for being so supportive of me, my family, and my blog. 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Christie Leigh Babirad: A Guest Post by Christie Leigh Babirad

1.    I overcame fears and insecurities as a child to write my first book and poetry collection. I came from an incredibly supportive family, but my school years, especially my elementary school days, were wrought with insecurities that developed over time from teachers who weren’t like my mom and equated shyness and fear of getting something wrong with a lack of knowledge and ability. It’s true that your elementary years are profoundly formative, and it wasn’t until when I went away to college, and when I tested into Advanced Composition that I started truly believing in my abilities, cultivating my passion, and becoming less afraid to speak and write my heart.

2. I always wanted to be a Christmas Elf, and still would like to be one if I could make a career out of it. Wouldn’t that be amazing? I love working with children and seeing the joy and magical belief in their eyes. When I was little, I used to go to these Police Christmas Parties because of my grandfather being a retired officer. I always thought the young women elves with Santa at these parties were just the coolest girls with the best outfits. I wanted to be just like them when I grew up. This might also be because as the story goes: Once upon a time in the late eighties, on the first of December, a perceptive nurse decided she would play Christmas music as I entered this world.

3. I tried to start up my own detective agency as a child. I wanted to emulate Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen with their Olsen and Olsen Mystery Agency Movie Series. Mine was called the CDK Mystery Agency, and I performed the show’s theme song with a friend in the elementary school talent show one year- wearing the trench coat and hat- the whole ensemble!

4. Speaking of talent shows, I performed in a cruise ship talent show once. I sang “When I Fall In Love”. I was about fifteen and hoping that this trip would turn into the “Love Boat” for me- it didn’t, but I will never forget overcoming my stage fright and being told by a professional singer on board that I had a great voice and only needed to learn to project and have more confidence.

5. What I truly wish for my life now—I would love to live in a place not many know about, where I can be surrounded by both ocean and trees and have only the most wonderful, creative, animal-loving people around me. I am an elf for the small-town every Christmas season, as well as Christmas in July. I own a bookstore that is also a café and features local artists. I continue to write my books that hopefully inspire many, sing in a town group, craft, run, hike, and live my life only among my family and the people I consider family. There are lots of animals in this special land, and they all are deeply cared for and run happily free. There are also town holiday events where you can dress up- I love to get dressed up and have “princess” moments.
